Lord Mayor welcomes the ESC delegations in the Tonhalle


The hosting Lord Mayor’s Reception is traditionally the major social highlight of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), the world’s largest TV entertainment show, whose final takes place on 14th May in the Düsseldorf Arena.

Düsseldorf’s Lord Mayor Dirk Elbers is inviting representatives from the 43 participating nations to the Tonhalle on Saturday evening, 7th May and warmly welcoming them to the state capital. Roughly 1,100 delegation members, including the ESC team of presenters with Judith Rakers, Anke Engelke and Stefan Raab, will walk along the 126 metre long red carpet in the Ehrenhof and be welcomed by Lord Mayor Elbers in the Tonhalle. 500 guests from business, culture, politics and sport are also invited. Roughly 1,000 media representatives are expected.
The delegation buses with ESC logos will enter the festively decorated Ehrenhof via the Inselstraße. The Polish delegation arrive first, the Germans are in the 42nd bus and the Spanish delegation is in the last bus. Lord Mayor Elbers will deliver the official welcome in the Tonhalle concert hall. Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, will also deliver a few welcoming words. The official ceremony is accompanied musically by the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra.
At the after-party in the Rotunde, the band Bilk will present the Düsseldorf soundtrack “Tanzen – Rhythmus meiner Stadt”. The “NewCityBeats” band and a DJ will provide entertainment in the Rotunde before and after the official ceremony. (fri)
